The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Tiger Shores Beach

This weeks adventure led me to Tiger Shores Beach.  Like many of the other beaches I have visited on the Hutchinson Island, this one is definitely less crowded that what you would see if you were to go to either Jensen Beach or Stuart Beach.  While there is not bathroom facilities, there is ample parking and a shower station to wash the sand off before you leave.Like normal, I left my house not knowing where I was going.  As I was driving, I remembered passing Tiger Shores Beach many time

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Virginia Forrest Beach

The adventure continues after a long break that consisted of sleeping in on the weekends and waking up long after the sun had risen.  I wasn’t sure when I was going to start motivating myself to continue with my weekly adventure but I knew the the time was drawing near.  While I did not plan on it starting back up this weekend, my body told me otherwise.  I must have slept in a awkward position because at 5:00 a.m. I woke up due to a sharp pain in my shoulder.  I have to admit… I

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Fletcher Beach

Today, my adventure led me to Fletcher Beach.  My original plan was to head to the House of Refuge but there were absolutely no clouds out this morning.  Right before arriving at the House of Refuge I saw a little parking area for Fletcher Beach and decided to make this my destination of the day.  Why?  Well, the House of Refuge is one of the most photographed locations on the Hutchinson Island and I want to make sure that when I go there I have all of my desired elements… mainly clouds.  Fletch

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Bob Graham Beach

The Hutchinson Island Adventure continues after a brief hiatus caused by Hurricane Matthew.  While those of us that live in this area were very fortunate by the last minute change in direction, those to the North of us were not so lucky.  Today, the adventure led me to Bob Graham Beach.  This beach is just South of Jensen Beach and it was a beautiful morning for taking sunrise pictures.  Normally, I like to do a quick online search to see if I can find out a little history or an interestin

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Normandy Beach

Today was the first day of October.  In Indiana, where I moved from, it signals that fall is here.  It is normally time to prepare for the colder weather and the changing colors of the leaves.  It was always my favorite time of year.  In Florida, time seems to stand still.  While October means that the hurricane season is coming to a close, nothing really changes.  It is both good and bad.  Of course, while I do miss the crisp, cool Autumn days I am thankful that I can be here and thankful

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Herman’s Bay Beach

Today, the adventure took me to Herman’s Bay Beach.  Sunrise was was at 7:11 a.m. and I was ready to go today… I wanted to be here yesterday but I did not set my alarm clock and unfortunately, I woke up about ten minutes after the sun rose.  Oops.  My only excuse is that when I set my alarm the night before, I saw that it was on but didn’t realize that only my weekday alarm was set.  It is only scheduled to go off Monday thru Friday.  Anyways, I made up for it by getting up on this fine Sun

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Middle Cove Beach

The destination for today was Middle Cove Beach.  There is a small parking lot and none of the facilities that one is used to seeing at most of the bigger beaches.  This is definitely not a bad thing; it is part of the charm.  Middle Cove Beach is another one of the perfect beaches to go to if you are looking to have a little more privacy than you would get at some of the bigger, more popular beaches on the Island.  This is the type of beach that I would choose to go to… without the family.  Why

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Stuart Beach

According to www.stuartfla.com, “Stuart Beach is one of the best beaches in Martin County. The sand is wide, the water is blue and there are showers, bathrooms, and a full concession stand. The beach has lifeguards, and there are usually surfers, swimmers, and plenty of beach combers just enjoying the sand, shells, and sun. There is also beach volleyball, fishing, and access to a bike path.”Now, they might be biased but I have to admit that this would be a great beach to take the family to for a

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Blue Heron Beach

Blue Heron Beach is another destination on the Hutchinson Island that one can go if seclusion and privacy is desired.  The dunes are prevalent at this site.  According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, “The beach and dune system is our first line of defense against storms because it acts as a buffer between the storm waves and coastal development. During hurricanes, storm waves encounter the beach and dunes before crashing into upland structures. When this happens, the sand

The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Waveland Beach

According to www.stlucieco.gov, “The southernmost guarded beach in St. Lucie County, Waveland Beach marks the start of a 13.2-mile bike path that takes riders north along A1A to Blue Heron Boulevard south of Fort Pierce Beach.”I moved to Port St. Lucie a little over a year ago from Kokomo, Indiana.  Though I had never been to Waveland Beach, I heard of it shortly after moving to Florida.  On June 16, 2015 there was a big news story, accompanied with a video, that had made national headlines.  Ap
