The Hutchinson Island Adventure: Middle Cove Beach

By Mark Warner

The destination for today was Middle Cove Beach.  There is a small parking lot and none of the facilities that one is used to seeing at most of the bigger beaches.  This is definitely not a bad thing; it is part of the charm.  Middle Cove Beach is another one of the perfect beaches to go to if you are looking to have a little more privacy than you would get at some of the bigger, more popular beaches on the Island.  This is the type of beach that I would choose to go to… without the family.  Why?  I have small children and when my wife and I take them to the beach we need to have bathrooms and showers unless we want to bring the whole beach back home with us.

I had no problems waking up this morning.  In fact, I actually woke up a few minutes before my alarm went off.  I think it is because I am really enjoying my little, weekly adventures.  Having a goal to see all of the public beaches on the Hutchinson Island really motivates me more than just convincing myself to go see the sunrise every weekend.

The bad thing about only getting out to one sunrise per week is that I don’t have the option to wait for a day with more/less clouds or varying atmospheric conditions that cause different color schemes in the sky.  The sky is what really changes the look of a picture.  Believe me when I say that I am not complaining.  While I am still a Hoosier at heart (for those who don’t know, a Hoosier is a native of Indiana), I am grateful that I am able to be taking photographs of the ocean instead of cornfields.

Yes, I am still chasing the perfect sunrise.  I make sure to set my goals high.  In this case, I know that there is no such thing as a perfect sunrise but it sure makes it fun to try.  I know that there are people that have never witnessed the sun rising over the ocean while sitting on the beach… even people who live within driving distance.  Well, if you are reading this and you realize that you are one of those people, all I can say is get out there and see it for yourself.  It is always different.  It is always amazing.  It is definitely worth it!  I can’t force you to do this, I can only encourage you to get out there and witness one for yourself.  If for some reason you decide it is not worth your time  or you just aren’t able to then be sure to keep following me on my Hutchinson Island Adventure.
